lofi

Hazy bedroom sound

Lofi (also lo-fi, short for low fidelity) describes audio with deliberately rough, imperfect sound quality—the opposite of polished studio production.

Vinyl crackle, tape hiss, and muffled frequencies become aesthetic choices rather than flaws.

The term now primarily evokes lofi hip-hop, a genre of mellow instrumental beats often used as background music for studying or relaxing: I put on some lofi while I work.
