Stair tread edge
Nosing is the act of pushing one's nose into something, whether literally or figuratively.
Dogs are always nosing around in bushes; people nose into other people's business.
In architecture and construction, a nosing is the projecting edge of a stair tread that extends past the riser below, or any similar protruding edge on a molding or drip cap.
The worn nosing on the old stairs needed replacing.
