dethronement
Monarch loses crown
Dethronement is the removal of a monarch or powerful figure from their position of authority.
The term applies literally to kings and queens forced from power, but extends to anyone toppled from a dominant position: the dethronement of a corporate titan, the champion's dethronement after fifteen years.
The word carries a sense of dramatic fall from supreme status.
