A deadeye is someone who shoots with exceptional accuracy—a marksman who rarely misses: She's a deadeye with a rifle.
The term comes from a circular wooden block used in sailing to tension rigging, which has holes resembling eye sockets.
In casual use, deadeye describes anyone with precise aim or sharp focus: He's a deadeye at darts.
