crystallite
Microscopic solid seed
A crystallite is a tiny crystal or crystal-like grain embedded in a larger mass of glite or amorphous material.
In geology, crystallites appear in volcanic glass and other rapidly cooled igneous rocks—too small to show full crystal structure but marking the beginning of crystallization.
In materials science, the term describes the microscopic crystal grains that make up polycrystalline metals and ceramics: The strength of the alloy depends on crystallite size.
