monocrystalline

Uniform crystal structure

Monocrystalline describes a solid material—especially a metal or semiconductor—composed of a single continuous crystal structure with no grain boundaries.

The term appears most often in discussions of solar panels, where monocrystalline silicon cells offer higher efficiency than their polycrystalline counterparts: monocrystalline panels, monocrystalline wafers.
