crossmatching
Donor recipient testing
Crossmatching is a laboratory procedure to test blood compatibility before transfusion.
A sample of the donor's blood is mixed with the recipient's to check for adverse reactions—clumping or destruction of red blood cells that would indicate incompatibility.
The term extends to matching organs for transplant: Crossmatching confirmed the kidney was suitable for the recipient.
