cross-resistance

Transferred defensive tolerance

Cross-resistance is the phenomenon where resistance to one substance confers resistance to related substances.

The term appears most often in medicine and agriculture: bacteria resistant to one antibiotic may resist others in the same class, or insects tolerant of one pesticide may survive exposure to similar chemicals.

The pathogen developed cross-resistance to multiple drugs.
