countryman

Fellow national, perhaps

A countryman is a person from the same country as oneself: He recognized a fellow countryman by the accent.

The term also means a person who lives in the countryside rather than a city—a rural dweller: The countrymen knew the land and its rhythms.

The feminine form countrywoman exists but is less common.
