fellow

One of us

The most general and frequent use of the noun fellow is a somewhat informal term for a man, often with the spelling (and pronunciation) “fella.” In university and professional contexts, fellow is a title conferring distinction, and can apply to women as well as men: She’s a visiting fellow in neuroscience this semester.

Fellow can also designate a very senior member of a professional society or organization.

As an adjective (used before another noun only), fellow denotes one of the same kind as the noun following it: fellow passenger, fellow citizen, fellow prisoner.
