swain
Pastoral young admirer
A swain is a young man, especially a country youth or a suitor courting a young woman.
The word is archaic and literary, surviving mainly in pastoral poetry and deliberately old-fashioned contexts: The fair maiden was pursued by many a lovesick swain.
It evokes rustic romance and simpler times.
