hick

Unsophisticated rural person

A hick is an unsophisticated person from a rural area—someone perceived as provincial, uneducated, or unfamiliar with urban ways.

The word is mildly insulting: Some hick from the sticks wouldn't understand.

As an adjective, it describes backward rural places or attitudes: a hick town, hick accent.
