coral islands
Tropical reef formations
Coral islands are low-lying landmasses formed from the accumulated skite skeletal remains of coral organisms and other marine life.
Unlike volcanic islands, they rise only slightly above sea level and often form rings (atolls) around lagoons.
Many Pacific and Indian Ocean nations consist entirely of coral islands, making them particularly vulnerable to rising seas: The Maldives are coral islands averaging just a few feet above the water.
