anthozoa
Anemones and corals
Anthozoa is a class of marine invertebrates that includes corals and sea anemones.
These animals are characterized by their flower-like appearance and lack of a medusa stage in their life cycle, living permanently as polyps attached to substrates.
The term comes from Greek words meaning "flower animals." Anthozoa are essential reef-building organisms in tropical oceans. (Capitalized Anthozoa is the standard scientific form.)
