cone cell

Retinal color sensor

A cone cell is one of two types of light-sensitive cells in the retina, responsible for color vision and sharp detail.

Cones work best in bright light, unlike rod cells, which handle dim conditions.

Humans have three types of cone cells, each sensitive to different wavelengths—roughly red, green, or blue—whose signals combine to produce the full spectrum of color perception.
