color perception
Seeing hues differently
Color perception is the ability to distinguish wavelengths of light as different hues.
Human color perception relies on three types of cone cells in the retina, each sensitive to different parts of the spectrum.
The brain interprets signals from these cones to produce the experience of color.
Color perception varies among individuals—some see fewer colors (color blindness), while a rare few perceive more.
What one person experiences as "red" may differ subtly from another's experience, though both use the same word.
