ringing ears
Hearing unwanted tones
Ringing ears describes the perception of sound—typically a high-pitched tone, buzzing, or hissing—when no external source is present.
The medical term is tinnitus.
It often follows exposure to loud noise or accompanies hearing loss: I've had ringing ears since the concert.
The ringing may be constant or intermittent.
