client-server

Requester-responder computing model

Client-server describes a computing architecture where tasks are divided between service providers (servers) and service requesters (clients).

The server hosts resources or performs processing; the client makes requests and displays results.

Most internet applications use this model: your browser (client) requests pages from web servers.

We're migrating to a client-server database system.
