ice cleats

Winter boot grippers

Ice cleats are traction devices that attach to footwear for walking on ice or packed snow.

They typically feature metal spikes or coils on the sole that grip slippery surfaces, preventing falls.

Most designs stretch over boots or shoes with rubber straps: I keep ice cleats in my car all winter.

Also called crampons when designed for mountaineering, though ice cleats are usually lighter and meant for everyday use on sidewalks and driveways.
