A boarding gate is the designated area in an airport terminal where passengers wait and then enter the aircraft.
Gate numbers appear on boarding passes and departure screens: Flight 447 is now boarding at gate C12.
The gate includes a waiting area with seating and the door or jetway connecting to the plane.
