chipboard

Compressed wood particles

Chipboard is an engineered wood product made from wood chips, shavings, or sawdust compressed and bonded with resin.

It's cheaper and weaker than plywood or solid wood, used for furniture backing, subflooring, and packaging.

In British English, chipboard also means cardboard or paperboard: The cereal box is made of chipboard.
