chinooks

Rocky slope winds

Chinooks names several distinct things.

A chinook is a warm, dry wind that descends the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, capable of raising temperatures dramatically in winter: A chinook melted most of the snow overnight.

Chinook salmon are large Pacific salmon prized by anglers and commercial fishers.

The Chinook were Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest, and Chinook Jargon was a trade language of that region.

A Chinook is also a twin-rotor military helicopter.
