Chinook helicopter

Heavy-lift military aircraft

A Chinook is a heavy-lift military helicopter recognizable by its tandem rotor design—two large rotors mounted at front and rear rather than a single main rotor with tail rotor.

Developed by Boeing, Chinooks transport troops, artillery, and supplies, and have served in conflicts from Vietnam to Afghanistan: Chinooks ferried soldiers to the landing zone.

The name comes from the Chinook people of the Pacific Northwest.
