chard

Beet's leafy cousin

Chard is a leafy green vegetable with broad, crinkly leaves and thick stalks that come in white, red, or yellow varieties.

Also called Swiss chard, it belongs to the beet family but is cultivated for its leaves rather than its root.

The leaves can be prepared like spinach while the stalks are often cooked separately, similar to celery.

I sautéed the chard with garlic and olive oil.
