carpenter's squares

Woodworker's measuring L's

A carpenter's square is an L-shaped tool used to mark and verify right angles in woodworking and construction.

The two arms meet at exactly 90 degrees, with measurements marked along both edges for layout work.

Carpenters use them to check that corners are square, mark cutting lines, and lay out stair stringers or rafters.

The most common type is the steel framing square, though smaller try squares serve for finer work.
