tape measures
Coiled measuring strips
Tape measures are flexible rulers used for measuring length, typically a strip of cloth, plastic, or metal coiled inside a compact case.
The metal variety retracts automatically and locks at any length: He pulled out the tape measure to check the window frame.
Tailors use soft cloth tape measures that drape around the body.
