camera phones

Mobiles with lenses

Camera phones are mobile phones with built-in cameras, now standard on virtually all smartphones.

The term emerged in the early 2000s when phone cameras were a novel feature: Back then, camera phones took grainy photos at best.

As phone cameras improved to rival dedicated cameras, the compound became redundant—nearly every phone is now a camera phone.
