memory foam

Body-molding bedding

Memory foam is a dense, viscoelastic material that softens with body heat and molds to pressure, then slowly returns to its original shape.

Developed by NASA in the 1960s for aircraft cushions, it became widely used in mattresses and pillows: I finally invested in a memory foam mattress.

The name refers to how the material "remembers" its shape after compression.
