Industrial glossing machine
A calender is a machine with heavy rollers that presses paper, cloth, or rubber to make it smooth, glossy, or thin.
The verb means to process material through such a machine: The fabric was calendered to give it a silky finish.
Not to be confused with calendar, the system for tracking days.
