beetling
Linen finishing technique
Beetling describes something that juts out or overhangs prominently, especially eyebrows: beetling brows, beetling cliffs.
The image is of something projecting forward threateningly or dramatically.
The word appears almost exclusively with brows or geological features, giving faces a stern or intimidating look and landscapes a looming quality.
