abdominal ultrasound
Internal organ imaging
An abdominal ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses sound waves to create pictures of organs and structures inside the belly, including the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, and spleen.
The test is noninvasive and painless, typically performed by moving a handheld device called a transducer across the skin after applying a gel.
Doctors order abdominal ultrasounds to investigate symptoms like pain or swelling, detect abnormalities, or monitor known conditions.
