bar line
Staff's vertical stroke
A bar line is a vertical line in musical notation that divides the staff into measures.
Bar lines mark the boundaries between groups of beats, helping musicians keep time and read the score: The piece begins with a pickup note before the first bar line.
Double bar lines signal the end of a section or piece.
