hammer-ons

Fretboard percussive technique

A hammer-on is a guitar technique where a note is sounded by sharply bringing a fretting finger down onto the string rather than picking it.

The finger "hammers" the fretboard, producing a smooth, connected sound between notes.

Hammer-ons create fluid runs and are often paired with pull-offs: He played the riff with quick hammer-ons.
