eighth note

Half a quarter

An eighth note is a musical note with a time value of half a beat in common time, or one-eighth of a whole note.

Written with a filled oval head and a single flag on the stem, eighth notes are often beamed together in groups: The melody opens with four eighth notes.

Called a quaver in British terminology.
