banderilla
Barbed bull dart
A banderilla is a decorated barbed stick used in bullfighting.
Banderilleros thrust pairs of them into the bull's shoulders during the second stage of the fight, weakening the neck muscles and lowering the head for the matador's final sword thrust.
The word is Spanish, from bandera (flag), referring to the colored paper streamers that adorn each stick.
