banderillero
Plants decorative darts
A banderillero is a bullfighter who plants banderillas—barbed, decorated sticks—into the bull's shoulders during the second stage of a bullfight.
This weakens the bull and prepares it for the matador's final act.
Banderilleros work as part of the matador's team, called a cuadrilla: The banderillero darted in, placed his sticks, and leapt clear of the horns.
