apes

Gorillas and chimps

Apes are large primates without tails—gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, and gibbons, along with humans.

In casual use, ape often means any monkey-like creature.

To ape someone is to imitate them clumsily or mockingly: He aped his teacher's mannerisms.

To go ape is to become wildly excited or angry.
