gone ape
Completely flipped out
Gone ape means to have become wildly excited, enthusiastic, or crazy about something.
The phrase evokes the frenzied, uninhibited behavior associated with apes: The crowd went ape when the band took the stage.
It can also suggest losing control in anger: He went ape when he saw the dent in his car.
