orangutan

Borneo's red primate

An orangutan is a large, long-armed ape native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.

Orangutans are reddish-brown, highly intelligent, and spend most of their lives in trees.

The name comes from Malay words meaning "person of the forest." The orangutan swung effortlessly between branches.
