single-celled organisms
Bacteria and protists
Single-celled organisms are living things whose entire body consists of one cell—bacteria, amoebas, many algae, and yeasts.
They perform all life functions within that single cell: eating, excreting, reproducing.
The term appears mainly in biology education and science writing: Single-celled organisms were the only life on Earth for billions of years.
