digital encoding
Data as numbers
Digital encoding is the process of converting information into a format that computers can store and process—representing data as sequences of binary digits (ones and zeros).
Text, images, sound, and video all require digital encoding to exist as computer files.
The term also applies to specific encoding schemes: The file uses UTF-8 digital encoding for text characters.
