amp
Guitar sound booster
An amp is a unit of electric current (short for ampere), measuring how much charge flows through a circuit: a 15-amp fuse.
Amp also shortens amplifier—the device that boosts audio signals: guitar amp, bass amp.
To amp something up is to intensify or energize it: The crowd was amped for the concert. (All-caps AMP may be an acronym.)
