temperature regulation

Managing body heat

Temperature regulation is the process of maintaining a stable internal temperature despite external changes.

In biology, warm-blooded animals regulate body temperature through sweating, shivering, and adjusting blood flow: The hypothalamus controls temperature regulation.

The term also applies to mechanical systems—thermostats, climate control, cooling systems—that maintain desired temperatures in buildings, engines, or equipment.
