acclimatisation
Gradual environmental adjustment
Acclimatisation is the process of adjusting to new conditions, especially climate or altitude.
Mountaineers require acclimatisation before ascending to high elevations where oxygen is thin.
The word applies broadly to any gradual adaptation: acclimatisation to a new job, acclimatisation to city life.
The spelling with -s- is British; American English uses acclimatization.
