Yalta
Wartime conference city
Yalta is a resort city on the Crimean Peninsula, historically part of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, now disputed between Ukraine and Russia.
The name evokes the 1945 Yalta Conference, where Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin divided postwar Europe into spheres of influence.
The deal was another Yalta suggests great powers carving up territory without consulting those who live there.
