Gropius

Bauhaus school founder

Walter Gropius was a German-American architect who founded the Bauhaus school in 1919, one of the most influential art and design institutions of the 20th century.

His approach unified art, craft, and technology, rejecting ornament in favor of functional design and industrial materials.

After fleeing Nazi Germany, he taught at Harvard and shaped generations of modernist architects.

The name is synonymous with the origins of modern architecture and design education.
