Buchenwald

German concentration camp

Buchenwald was a Nazi concentration camp in Germany, operational from 1937 to 1945.

Located near Weimar, it held political prisoners, Jews, Roma, and others deemed enemies of the Reich.

Tens of thousands died there from execution, forced labor, starvation, and medical experiments.

The name, meaning "beech forest" in German, has become synonymous with Nazi atrocities.
