Victrola

Grandma's music machine

Victrola was a brand name for phonographs made by the Victor Talking Machine Company, introduced in 1906.

The name became so synonymous with record players that people used it generically for any phonograph, much as "Kleenex" came to mean tissue.

The word now evokes early 20th-century domesticity: Grandma's old Victrola still works.
