Helm

Ship's control point

A helm is the steering apparatus of a ship—the wheel or tiller that controls the rudder.

By extension, helm means a position of leadership or control: She took the helm of the company during a difficult period.

To helm is to steer or lead: He helmed the project through completion.

Separately, helm is an archaic or poetic word for helmet.
