Upcountry

Named highland district

Upcountry refers to the interior or inland regions of a country, away from the coast or major cities.

The term often implies rural, elevated, or less developed areas: They traveled upcountry to visit remote villages.

In some regions, particularly South Carolina, the Upcountry is a specific geographic designation for the northwestern part of the state.

As an adverb, it describes movement toward such areas: We're heading upcountry tomorrow.
